About Stamford Podiatry

stamford podiatry staff

Stamford Podiatry Group's roots date back to 1946 when Dr. Michael L. Sabia,
Sr. and Dr. Bernard E. Friedman shared office space in downtown Stamford.
In addition to maintaining a busy podiatry practice, both men were active in
local and state podiatry associations and in the Stamford community. Dr.
Friedman was a member of the Stamford Commission on Aging while Dr. Sabia
served several terms on both the Stamford Board of Education and Health
Commissions.

In the mid 1960s Dr. Sabia' s nephew Dr. Robert R. Rinaldi joined the
practice and in 1968 the practice moved to its present location on Third
St. Dr. Rinaldi continued the tradition of professional and community
service as President of the Stamford Board of Education and President of the
Connecticut Podiatry Association. In 1971, Dr. Michael L. Sabia, Jr. joined
the practice. He also was President of the Connecticut Podiatry
Association, and continues to be active on community affairs.
Dr. James J. Gunipero joined our practice in 1980 and practiced as a partner until 2003

In 1991, Dr. Marissa Girolamo broke ground to become the first woman
podiatrist associate, and subsequently, partner at Stamford Podiatry Group.
She recently assumed duties as Chief of the Podiatry Department at Stamford
Hospital, once again taking SPG, PC out into the community. Within the past
few years, Dr. Rui DeMelo has become our most recent partner and Dr.
Francisco Lago joined the practice as an associate. Their multi-lingual
talents have enabled SPG, PC to reach out to the Spanish speaking community
of Stamford.
